Remove Jammed Paper From Canon Printer: Preliminary Instructions

Before going ahead and removing the jammed paper, it is important to consider some preliminary instructions. They will make the process safer and more effective.


1. Don't touch the high-voltage contacts inside the printer's top cover. This can damage the appliance.

2. Pull out the paper gently in the suitable direction.

3. If there is torn paper, ensure to remove all remaining paper bits.

4. Don't touch the transfer roller as it may lower the print quality.

5. While clearing jammed paper, don't touch the output tray and its surrounding parts as they may become too hot.

6. After removing the paper, use only that paper that meets Canon's specifications. This will prevent the occurrence of paper jams in the future.


Fix the Canon Printer Paper Jam Problem

Follow these stepwise instructions to fix the paper jam in your Canon printer.

1. Open the printer's top cover by holding it by the cutout edge.

2. Lift the toner cartridge upwards. Then remove it.

3. Don't touch the drum inside the drum cartridge. This can result in deterioration of the print quality. Also, don't touch the electrical contacts or the sensor as this can cause damage to the printer or the toner cartridge.

4. Put the toner cartridge into the protective bag.

5. Take out the paper in the tray. Open the cover of the tray till it stops. Pull out the rear paper guide and then remove the paper.

6. When removing the jammed paper, if you see the leading edge of the paper inside the printer, pull it gently upward.

7. If you find it challenging to remove the paper, remove it from the manual feed or the multi-purpose tray.

8. If the rear edge of the paper is inside the printer, hold both sides of the paper. Now, push it downward to remove it.

9. If neither the rear edge nor the leading edge of the paper is seen, pull out the rear edge of the paper. Now, hold both sides of the paper and push it gently downward to remove it.

10. Now, load the paper and align the rear paper guide with the paper stack's edge. Now, close the tray cover.
